Russell Construction turned a 1950s era downtown building into a VIP exercise and sauna facility for Equal Justice Initiative. The building also contained offices for staff, VP personnel, and meeting rooms. The civil portion of the project consisted of new storm piping, utility lines, and site layout. The exterior facade was completely repaired and/or replaced with masonry, curtain wall system, new loading dock area, ACM panels, and paint. The interior buildout consisted of a complete gut and rebuild for all systems and products. The finished product included new installation of metal stud walls with level 5 drywall finish, paint and multiple wallpaper products. The floors were a mixture of a gym flooring, synthetic rubber flooring, sealed concrete, porcelain tile, and carpet. Russell Construction installed the saunas for the facility as well. The group exercise room was outfitted with full length mirrors and each room with its own HVAC capabilities. This was a unique project, as are most of our historic projects, due to the interesting finds during the demolition phase that required intense communication between the GC and Design team to ensure the Owner would be able to obtain the best quality product that still met their overall design intentions.
